Succubus
According to Medieval legends, a Succubus is a female demon that has sexual intercourse with men, and draws energy, or seed from them, by which they sustain themselves. The Succubus normally takes on the form of an beautiful woman, and also has the power to bewitch their victims. The name succubus is taken from the Latin word -Succuba, meaning prostitute, or that which lies beneath. There are stories about the Succubus in many cultures including India, where they are called ‘Mohini’.
The Mohini, according to legend, usually drape themselves in white, and stand at the side of the road, try to seduce passing travelers, so that they can have intercourse with them, and sometimes drink their blood. The male counterpart of the succubus is called the incubus, who prey on chaste women. Succubi are also said to be able to transform into the male form, so as to pass the seed that they collected into a woman. The semi-human offspring, that are born from such an coupling are called Cambion, and are said to be born deformed, and have some supernatural powers of their own. According to Arabic, and jewish myth, Lilith, who was the first wife of Adam, is supposed to be a Succubus.
After god created Lilith for Adam, they got into a fight, since she refused to lie underneath him. So, Lilith spoke Gods Avowed name, and flew away. Even though God sent his angels to bring her back, she refused to return with them, and so she became an Succubus, that harms small children. But she promised God, that if she sees his image on an Amulet, she would not touch that child. That is why small children are made to wear amulets around their necks, with the names senoi, sansenoi written on them, so that when Lilith sees the names, she will remember her promise to God, and leave the child unharmed. Many of the Legends of Succubus were invented to explain the phenomenon of wet dreams, and sleep paralysis.
